Our Sustainable Farming Methods Nourish Abundant Wildlife
Unlike modern rice that is often grown in sandy clay and harvested from multiple growers, we grow our rice in our farm's peaty, mineral and nutrient dense fields. We're close enough to the ocean to naturally flood our fields with the tides, yet far enough inland to receive natural freshwater river irrigation, which provides both delicious rice and a more sustainable farming method.
That's why whether we’re planting, harvesting or simply going for a walk, we’re never alone. From otters swimming alongside the dikes to the ever present (and pesky) blackbirds, we have a thriving ecosystem here at White House Farms.
Photographer Scott Gallagher is behind the lens of this journal “from the fields.” Through his photography, he shares a peek at our journey to bring Andy’s Charleston Gold from the fields to your table (and all the creatures that keep us company while we’re at it.)
